OPAL (Online Programming for All Libraries)

January 31, 2008

Nancy of This and That at the Library is a big fan of OPAL, so I thought I’d check it out. OPAL has dozens of online programs that they offer for patrons and librarians alike.

For patrons, OPAL offers online book discussions, author interviews, lecture series, and workshops for fun.

Librarians may be interested in OPAL’s huge list of training programs and interviews, for example, “flickr + libraries”, “Copyright and the Public Librarian”, and “Accessible Online Books”, to name a few. Staff can either attend a live program through OPAL’s auditorium, or go to the archives and view presentations via MP3, streaming audio, slides, videos, and other formats. For busy librarians, I think this is an excellent way to receive training that we might not otherwise be able to get out of the building to attend.
